Description of key information

A study (Tobor-Kaplon, 2013) was performed to assess the acute toxicity of the test item to algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata). Considering the low water solubility of the substance, algae were exposed to water-accommodated fractions of the substance. The results are expressed in terms of effective loadings (EL). Reaction Product of Oleic acid, N1-(9Z)-9-octadecen-1-yl-1,3-propanediamine and paraformaldehyde did not inhibit growth rate of the algae at a WAF prepared at a loading rate of 1.0 mg/l after 72 hours of exposure (NOERL). A 72-h EL50 value greater than 1.0 and lower than 3.2 mg/L has been determined for the effects of the test substance on growth rate of algae. Samples for analytical confirmation of the exposure concentrations were taken at the start of the test. The EC10 and EC50 for growth rate reduction were estimated to be 1.2 and 2.1 mg/l, respectively. The confidence interval for both values ranged from 0.99 to 4.2 mg/l, being the estimated measured concentrations used for calculations of these values.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.2 mg/L
