The ready biodegradation test indicates that ethylmethylcarbonate is readily biodegradable with 98% biodegradation after 28 days (passing 60% degradation within 10 days of passing 10%). According to column 2 of REACH annex VIII, it was not necessary to conduct the hydrolysis test as ethylmethylcarbonate was determined to be readily biodegradable.

Adsorption/desorption: the adsorption coefficient of ethylmethylcarbonate was determined using the HPLC method. Under the conditions of the study, the adsorption coefficient of ethylmethylcarbonate was 1.58 (log Koc = 0.199). This finding suggests that ethylmethylcarbonate is unlikely to exhibit binding to soil or sediment particulates.
