Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Referring to the appearance of slags, tin-smelting (see attached images in IUCLID endpoint 4.1.1) the material exhibits different particle sizes; the batch with smaller particles has therefore been considered as the worst case material and has therefore been subjected to the determination of the particle size distribution (by volumetric sieve analysis).
In the course of this analysis it has been determined that 98.6 % of all particles are equal or larger than 250 µm (the largest fraction (36.7 %) had a particle size of 1000 µm. The fraction (0.7 %) with the smallest particle size (125 µm) has been subjected to a subsequent determination of particle size distribution.
Subsequent determination of particle size distribution of the 125 µm fraction revealed that 50 % of the particles had a diameter of 55.05 µm; 10% within the 125 µm fraction had a diameter of 11.12 % and 5% a diameter of 5.9 µm.
The analysed batch includes therefore only a minimal fraction of particles (0.1 %) which in the end could be regarded as a thoracic fraction.
