Description of key information

The melting point of slags is correlated to the constituents in the processed ores. As the composition of ores and consequently slags varies in broad ranges the slags are considered to be UVCB substances. Consequently, it is impossible to define a boiling point for slags.
Due to the composition of slags, tin smelting it can furthermore be inferred that in the course of heating-up the substance no evaporation of the substance as such would occure – instead a decomposition would take place during which at first those metals/metal oxides would evaporate which have the relatively lower boiling points, resulting in a permanent change of the composition of slags, tin-smelting.
Due to the high temperature (1200 °C) at which the smelting of the slag is processed it can be inferred that the boiling temperature is well above 1200 °C.
Against this background a study to determine the boiling point of slags does not need to be conducted according to Regulation 1907/2006 (REACH).
