Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
density, other
Remarks:
density and relative density
Type of information:
other: Handbook data
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
data from handbook or collection of data
Remarks:
From a trusted source acc. to "ECHA, Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment – Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance"
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Not applicable - Handbook data
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
other: no data
Type:
density
Density:
2.3 g/cm³
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: relative density: 2.3

According to the reference, the density values can be assumed to refer to temperatures near room temperature. For this reason 20 °C was filled in as temperature.

The relative density was calculated from the value of the handbook. The value was divided by the relative density of water at 4 °C (1.000).

Conclusions:
According to the reference, the relative density of dipotassium disulphite is 2.3 at approx. 20 °C.
Endpoint:
density, other
Remarks:
density and relative density
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
secondary literature
Remarks:
authoritative secondary source
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Not applicable - authoritative secondary source
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
other: no data
Type:
density
Density:
2.3
Remarks on result:
other: relative density: 2.3

Value from general accepted authoritative secondary source. No data available for temperature. But the substance is a solid and so the temperature will have negligible influence upon density.

Conclusions:
According to the reference, dipotassium disulfite as a relative density of 2.3.
Endpoint:
density, other
Remarks:
density
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
secondary literature
Remarks:
Peer reviewed data
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
handbook data - Peer reviewed data
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
other: no data
Type:
density
Density:
2.34 g/cm³

Value from general accepted authoritative secondary source. No data available for temperature. But the substance is a solid and so the temperature will have negligible influence upon density.

Conclusions:
According to the reference, dipotassium disulfite as a density of 2.34 g/cm³.

Description of key information

Relative density of dipotassium disulfite: 2.3

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:

Additional information

For the evaluation of this endpoint data from the CRC handbook were used as key information. According to ECHA, guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment – chapter R.7a, specific handbook data for physic-chemical properties are considered to be a reliable data source. Useful reference books and data compilations containing peer reviewed physico-chemical data include the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.

Two further secondary sources (Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary and IARC Monographs on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans) were used to support the key information. All references indicate that dipotassium disulfite has a (relative) density of 2.3.
