Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The substance 'Naphtha (petroleum), steam-cracked, C8-10 aromatic hydrocarbon fraction, alkylated and oligomerised' [EC no. 701-299-7] (see Chap. 1) is a poorly soluble liquid mixture (UVCB substance) mainly consisting of dimeric and trimeric aryl-aliphatic compounds. The acute aquatic toxicity data have been determined with water-accomodated fractions and the effect levels are reported as loadings.

Two alga tests (OECD TG 201) conducted with different technical products of the substance resulted in EL50 values greater than 100 mg/L (loading).

Daphnia tests (OECD TG 202) have been conducted with three different technical products: The EL50 values are 54, >100, and >1000 mg/L (loading).

An acute fish test (OECD TG 203) of the substance was not available. Instead, the LL50 of 25.8 mg/L obtained from the structure-related phenolic resin ‘Oligomerisation and alkylation reaction products of 2-phenylpropene and phenol‘ [EC no. 700-960-7] is taken as a conservative result. This value is used for derivation of PNECs except PNEC STP and PNEC oral.

No inhibition of microbial proliferation was observed in an activated sludge inhibition test according to OECD TG 209, using the structure-related phenolic resin as test substance.

No information about aquatic long-term effects is available. Thus, the PNECs have been derived from acute toxicity data according to the Guidance on Information Requirements & Chemical Safety Assessment, R.10.

Conclusion on classification

The substance 'Naphtha (petroleum), steam-cracked, C8-10 aromatic hydrocarbon fraction, alkylated and oligomerised' [EC no. 701-299-7] (see Chap. 1), previously registered as Hydrocarbons, C9 -unsaturated [EC no. 615-276-3], requires classification for environmental hazards, based on experimental evidence:

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP regulation) to be labelled with H412 (Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects), Category Aquatic Chronic 3.
