Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From 23 May 2018 to 08 January 2019
Reliability:

Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Version / remarks:
July 1995
Qualifier:

Guideline:
EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
Version / remarks:

Qualifier:

Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.7840 (Water Solubility)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Remarks:
The water solubility of the test item in demineralized water in ratios 1:10, 1:1 and 10:1 is observed in a preliminary test.
Key result
Water solubility:
> 1 000 g/L
Incubation duration:
24 h
Remarks on result:
other: Temperature not specified but assumed to be ambient. pH not recorded.

In all three flasks no phase separation could be observed after the flasks were allowed to stand for 24 hours. Therefore the water solubility is stated as soluble with demineralized water in any ratio. The test substance was soluble in > 1000 g/L.

In each test solution, the presence of the test item was confirmed by HPLC-MS after standing for one hour to prove that the test item is stable in aqueous solution.

Conclusions:
The substance is regarded as fully miscible.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of the test item was investigated according to OECD105/EU A6 guidelines, under GLP.

In a preliminary test, ratios of 1:10, 1:1 and 10:1 of the test item in demineralized water were prepared, and turned to homogeneous solutions, stable for at least one hour as confirmed by HPLC-MS.

As the solubility was determined to be > 1000 g/L, no further testing was performed.

Endpoint:

Key result
Water solubility:
> 1 000 g/L
Remarks on result:
other: highly soluble
Remarks:
Temperature was not reported
Details on results:
General classification based on Water Solubility is: "Very soluble" means "higher than 1000 g/L"
Executive summary:

In the GESTIS database, Diethyl bis(2-hydroxyethyl)aminomethylphosphonate is reported as very soluble in water (> 1000 g/L).

Description of key information

The water solubility of the substance has been measured > 1000 g/L. (OECD 105, flask preliminary test; Holzaht-Grimme 2019; GLP).
The maximum solubility, extrapolated to be fully miscible, corresponds to the density value.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
1 161 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

A fully reliable, GLP preliminary testing is available, and confirm the qualitative assessment from literature as very soluble. However, only a limit value was provided (> 1000 g/L), as not tested above a 10:1 ratio. Extrapolating this result to fully miscible at any ratio, the theoretical maximum solubility would be equivalent to the density of the substance (i.e. 1 drop of water dissolving all the amount of substance). As presented in this IUCLID Section 4.4, the relative density D20/4 was measured to be 1,161, that would represent 1161 g/L, à 20°C. This value is retained as key data.
