The experimental value of the logPow for ursodeoxycholic acid is 3.38. Considering also the predicted log Pow value of 4.66 by ACD/Labs’ ACD/PhysChem Suite it can be concluded that the substance has a moderately high partition coefficient, suggesting a higher repartition in the hydrophobic phase. The values, however, should be evaluated considering the amphipathic nature of bile acids. It can be therefore supposed that, in a biphasic solution, ursodeoxycholic acid will be mainly distributed at the interface of the two phases.
