Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Genetic toxicity in vitro

Description of key information

An Ames assay was started. Due to contamination of the test substance, also after sterilisation, the test substance is not suitable for the bacterial reverse mutation assay.   Due to contaminations of the test substance observed in the 1st Experiment an evaluation of the experiment was not possible. Different attempts were performed to sterilize the test substance (e.g. use of UV light and/or sterilization in 70% ethanol). However, none of the tested possibilities were successful. Therefore, the test substance is not suitable for the bacterial reverse mutation assay.

Information on genetic toxicity can be obtained based on the chemical composition of the substance. The substance is the residues of an extraction process of Hibiscus seed. The analytical report revealed that the substance contains water, ash, proteins, fat, dietary fibers and carbohydrates. It is not assumed that these substance could cause genetic toxicity. As a consequence, the substance is not classified with regard to genetic toxicity.
