Description of key information

Read across justification

A hydrolysis study is not available on the substance Oligomeric reaction product of formaldehyde, aniline and 2-methyloxirane, and reaction product of 2,2'-oxydiethanol and 2-methyloxirane (EC917-215-9) (target substance), therefore data has been used from 1,2-Diaminotoluene, ethoxylated and propoxylated (CAS 67800-94-6) (analogue substance 1) to address this data gap.

Target substance:

Based on the physical and chemical properties and environmental data available, the target substance is not readily biodegradable, has a log Koc of <3.42 (is likely to be mobile within the soil compartment), is water soluble, is unlikely to bioaccumulate and unlikely to dissociate within the environment.

 

Analogue 1 substance:

Analogue substance 1 (CAS 67800-94-6) is not readily biodegradable, has a log Koc of 1.6 (is likely to be mobile within the soil compartment), is water soluble, is unlikely to bioaccumulate and unlikely to dissociate within the environment.

 

Hydrolysis data:

The hydrolysis of analogue 1 was evaluated as a function of pH and found to be resistant to abiotic hydrolysis. At all pHs tested, 4, 7, and 9, there was no significant hydrolysis (Bayer Material Science AG, 2009).

 

This study demonstrates the tertiary amine and ether linkages within analogue substance 1, and presumably the target substance, are resistant to hydrolytic degradation at environmentally relevant pHs

 

Conclusion:

There are no anticipated biases in utilizing this study for read-across. Both the target substance and the analogue 1 substance have the same structural features that would be subject to hydrolysis. There are no features of either molecule that would be judged to bias results in either direction.

 

Therefore, it is concluded that read across is appropriate and hydrolysis data can be used from analogue 1 to the target substance.
