Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Tin, dioctylbis(2,4-pentanedionato-κO2,κO4)- hydrolyses in water directly. The hydrolysis procducts are 2,4-Pentadione and dioctyltin oxide.

The (Q)SAR for dioctyltin oxide shows that the solubility of the compound is lower than the level for toxicity for aquatic inverebrates. So there is no hazard form this compound for inverebrates,

The solubility of the hydrolysis compound 2,4-Pentadione is higher than the level of toxicity for aquatic inverebrates. So the is to evaluate the toxicity of this compound.

The acute toxicity of 2,4-pentanedione was studied in several static tests with Daphnia magna. The

48 h EC50-values obtained from these studies were 34.4 mg/l (nominal), 48 mg/l (measured) and

75 mg/l (nominal) thereby showing good comparability of all tests (Thurston et al. 1985, Mount and

Norberg 1984, Bringmann and Kuehn 1982, Elnabarawy et al. 1986).

For EC/LC50 for freshwater interbrates the geometric mean was calculated:

Study EC50(Pentadione, 48h) / mg/L
Elnabarawy, 1985 75
Bringmann, 1977 100
Bringmann, 1982 40
Mount, 1984 48,5
Thurston, 1985 47,6

Geo Mean 58,63

This results is reflected by the unvalid study of IBACON (unvalid in due to determination of the concentration)
