Description of key information

On the basis of theoretical assessment, lithium metaborate (which contains identical functional groups to dilithium tetraborate) should be considered as not oxidising and should not be subjected to experimental testing. The material meets all criteria for exemption from testing and has a structure not at all conducive with that required to exhibit oxidising tendencies.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

A theoretical assessment was performed on one category member, dilithium tetraborate and concluded that the material meets all criteria for exemption from testing and has a structure not at all conducive with that required to exhibit oxidising tendencies. As the same functional groups are present across the category members, and any variations due to the range of trigonal and tetrahedral species between the substances are not expected to lead to any changes in oxidising potential of the substances then it can be concluded that no classification is therefore required acorss the lithium borate substances.
