Description of key information

The flash point of the test substance, Terpenes and terpenoids, turpentine-oil,α-pinene fraction, dimers, was determined using a closed cup flash point tester, in a procedure compatible with Methold A.9 Flash Point of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

The apparatus used was the Setaflash 30000 -0 flash point tester. An aliquot of the test substance (approximately 2g for temperatures up to 100°C and approximately 4g for temperatures above 100 °C) was transferred to the sample cup of the Setaflash tester. Observations were made for ignition of the vapour and if ignition did not occur, then the temperature was increased and the test flame was re-introduced. This process was repeated until the lowest reproducible temperature at which a flash occurred, using a fresh sample.

The recorded flash point was corrected for atmospheric pressure using the following equation: Corrected flash point = Observed flash point [C] + 0.23 (101.325 - ambient atmospheric pressure (kPa) [p]). Using this equation, the flash point was determined to be 155 ± 2°C at an atmospheric pressure of 101.6 kPa.
