Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- The 72h-EC50 for growth rate and yield were determined to be 0.23 mg/L and 0.07 mg/L, respectively. The 72h-EC10 for growth rate and yield were determined to be 0.05 mg/L and 0.03 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC and LOEC were both 0.03 mg/L and 0.09 mg/L for growth rate and yield.
- Executive summary:
The toxicity of test item against Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined according to OECD 201. The study was performed using 5 concentrations ranging from 0.032 to 10 mg/L with a spacing factor of 3.125. Incubation time was 72 hours. The cell concentration of each replicate was determined by measuring the cell numbers every 24 hours with an electronic particle counter. Growth rate µ and the yield were determined from the cell number at the respective observation times.
At test start and end, the content of the test item in the test solutions was determined using LC-MS-MS.The biological results were based on the calculated values (geometric mean).
Significant inhibition of algal growth was observed at the concentrations 0.1 – 10 mg/L. The 72h-EC50 for growth rate and yield were determined to be 0.23 mg/L and 0.07 mg/L, respectively. The 72h-EC10 for growth rate and yield were determined to be 0.05 mg/L and 0.03 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC and LOEC were both 0.03 mg/L and 0.09 mg/L for growth rate and yield.
