The test item is a hygroscopic powder which forms one large lump making it technically not feasible to conduct the particle size analysis using a variety of different methods:
Laser diffraction analysis:
- cannot be analysed by laser diffraction due to the moisture in the test item
- the dispersing solvent (e.g. silicone oil or sunflower oil) is used and the moisture droplets formed in this solvent interfere with the measurement of particle size of the crystals
Molecular sieve
Sieving is not an alternative since the test item would stick to the sieves preventing measurement.
