Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid having a melting point <= 160°C
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
data waiving: supporting information
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
according to guideline
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
according to guideline
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
according to guideline
EPA OPPTS 830.7200 (Melting Point / Melting Range)
GLP compliance:
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Melting / freezing pt.:
ca. 80 °C
Decomp. temp.:
> 80 °C

An endothermic peak was observed between 50°C and 125°C directly followed by another endothermic effect starting at 125°C.

In order to investigate the nature of the first endothermic effect peak, Experiment 2 was stopped directly after this peak. After the experiment, a grey powder residue remained in the sample container (original colour: white). The change of the colour indicated possible reaction and/or decomposition of the test item in addition to potential melting transition indicated by the endotherm.

It was not possible to determine precise melting temperature of mercaptamine as the melting transition could not be adequately distinguighed by the decompostion of the substance.
