Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is an organic substance or mixture containing chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500°C
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
data waiving: supporting information
Endpoint:
explosiveness
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Reliability:
4 (not assignable)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: The test method is commonly used in other than REACH Regulation context for the flammability and burning characterization and it can be considered as scientifically acceptable. Nevertheless, only the test sheet is available.
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Falling hammer and powder explosion tests were performed.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Parameter:
other: Explosive (not specified)
Remarks on result:
negative (not further specified)
Remarks:
Not impact sensitive and no powder explosion potential.

FALLING HAMMER test

No detonations with cup were recorded in none of the 10 trials performed.

Impact sensitivity was negative.

POWER EXPLOSION test

Assessment at 30 g/m3: 0

Assessment at 100 g/m3: 0

Assessment at 200 g/m3: 0

Assessment at 500 g/m3: 0

Assessment at 1000 g/m3: 0 Only smut observation: none Overall powder explosiveness: negative

Conclusions:
Not impact sensitive and no powder explosion potential.
Executive summary:

The explosive potential of the test substance was examined in the falling hammer test and in the powder explosiveness tests. In the first case, 10 trials were performed with the cap. In the second one, sample was shieved at 63 µm and the teast substance was assayed at the following concentrations: 30, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 g/m3.

No detonation was recorded in none of the replicates and the test substance resulted as not sensitive to impact .

No reactions were recorded at none of the powder concentrations tested.

Discussion and conclusion

The test item resulted as no sensitive to impact and the powder explosion assessment failed to show any explosiveness potential.

Additional information

Based on falling hammer test, powder explosiveness tests and DSC analysis.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, 2.1.4.2. Screening procedure section, the screening procedure is aimed at identifying the presence of such reactive groups and the potential for rapid energy release. If the screening procedure identifies the substance or mixture to be a potential explosive, the acceptance procedure (section 10.3 of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria) has to be performed.

Screening procedure failed to evidence any reason for concern, on the basis of DSC analysis outcomes: an endothermic peak between 340 and 380 °C (7.67 J//g), caused by the thermal decomposition of the test substance; no further reaction has been recorded up to 600 °C.

Furthermore, the substance resulted as not sensitive to impact and no reactions were recorded during the powder explosiveness tests.

In conclusion, the substance can be considered non explosive, according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
