Conclusion on classification

Based on a 48-hour EC50 value and a 72-hour ErC50 value of > 100 mg/L, which were calculated from OECD guideline studies with the test item methyl 2 -hydroxyisobutyrate on acute aquatic toxicity in crustaceae (Daphnia sp.) and green alga (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) respectively and taking into account that the substance has been determined to be readily biodegradable, it is proposed that the test substance requires no classification according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 as hazardous to the aquatic environment.
