Description of key information

A number of melting point values are given ranging from 42 degrees C to 45 degrees C.

Four references are presented which give seven melting point values in total - the SIDS document presents four values. The results are summarised in the table below :-

The values reported are in broad agreement in that 2,4 -Dichlorophenol has a melting point ranging from 42 degrees C to 45 degrees C. Those reported values with the higher validity scores assigned are to the higher melting point value of 45 degrees C. The purity of the substance in most cases is not given although the lower melting point values suggest a slightly more impure sample.

In addition, the melting point of 2,4 -dichlorophenol is reported to be 45 degrees C from the "Chlorophenols Community Right to Know List"

Several of the more reliable sources quote 45°C. Since this is the highest value presented it represents the most pure material. Therefore, it is concluded that the melting point of 2,4 -Dichlorophenol is 45°C.
