Key value for chemical safety assessment

Genetic toxicity in vitro

Description of key information
In vitro tests on microorganisms and mammalian cells, and in vivo tests mainly yielded negative results.
In 2012, the National Advisory Committee for Acute Exposure Guidance Levels (AEGLs) stated that Chlorobenzene has to some extent the potential to damage DNA, which is further supported by the formation of epoxy metabolites; however, because of the conflicting results of mutagenic tests in vitro and in vivo, it is not clear whether genotoxic activity could pose a risk to human health.
