Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Under the test conditions, no effects on fish has been observed at the maximum achievable solubility of n-butyl-4,4 -bis(tert-butylperoxy)valerate in test medium according to the OECD 203 guideline.

Additional information

The acute toxicity of n-butyl-4,4 -bis(tert-butylperoxy)valerate to Danio rerio exposed under semi-static conditions for 96h was assessed according to the OECD 203 Guideline and GLP requirements. Fish were exposed to a series of dilutions of saturated stock solutions in dilution water, renewed every day, throughout the test period.

As the test item was known to be difficult to dissolve, tests solutions were prepared from dilutions of a saturated solution prepared using slow-stirring conditions described in the OECD 123 guideline.

Chemical analysis of the test item showed the instability of the exposure concentrations over the 96-hour test period. Based on these results, renewal of the test solutions has been done every day and analytical determination were made on fresh and old solutions throughout the test period. The concentration of the test substance in fresh test solutions were all found to be consistently close to the water solubility limit of the test material.

As no lethally was reported for all tested concentrations, it can be concluded that the test item has no effects on fish at the maximum achievable solubility of the test tem in test medium.

The definitive test met all the validity criteria of the test guideline detailed as follows.
