Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
December 03, 1996 - February 27, 1997
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Version / remarks:
EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
0 s
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

During the pretest SCARLET RN 1165 could not be ignited with a flame during the pretest (contact time of about 2 minutes). In contact with the ignition source, SCARLET RN 1165 smouldered without ignition. Therefore, no main test was performed.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
SCARLET RN 1165 is not "highly flammable" according to the criteria of the guideline.
Executive summary:

The determination of the flammability of the test article was performed in accordance with the EEC Directive 92/69, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A.10 "Flammability (solids)", EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992.

During the pretest SCARLET RN 1165 could not be ignited with a flame during the pretest (contact time of about 2 minutes). In contact with the ignition source, SCARLET RN 1165 smouldered without ignition. Therefore, no main test was performed.

In conclusion, SCARLET RN 1165 is not highly flammable according to the criteria as described in the method A.10 of EEC directive 92/69.

Description of key information

SCARLET RN 1165 is not "highly flammable" according to the criteria of EEC Directive 92/69, Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A. 10 "Flammability (solids)", EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The pretest was negative, leading to an absence of classification in the decision logic for flammable solids.
