Description of key information

The substance is readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Biodegradation of beta-alanine was tested according to OECD TG 301 C under the GLP conditions. The determination by the BOD, TOC and HPLC methods showed 87%, 95% and 100% degradation of beta-alanine, respectively. Therefore beta-alanine is considered readily biodegradable under the test conditions (MITI (Japan), 1993).
