Description of key information
Cerium metal is a flammable solid according to an equivalent test guideline to EU A10 "flammability for solids".

ECHA guidance R.7.a, page 120: "A flammable solid is one that is readily combustible. A readily combustible solid is a powdered, granular or pasty substance that can be easily ignited by brief contact with an ignition source and the flame spreads rapidly."
According to the Regulation EC 1272/2008, metals whose burning rate is higher than 2,2 mm /s, and when the zone of reaction spreads over the whole length of the sample in less than 5 minutes shall be classified as flammable solid category 1.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Burning rate: 1,4 cm / min = 0,23 mm / s
Cerium (solid) is classified as category 4.1, packing category II, according to the UN Manual of Test and Criteria since the time of burning in accordance with the test method described in 33.2.1.3.4.2 of the UN Manual of Test and Criteria (4th revised edition).
According to CLP cerium metal shall therefore be classified as "flammable solid, cat. 1" with hazard statement "H228 Flammable solid".
