The biodegradability of octane-1 -thiol has been read across from tert-dodecanethiol. Jenkins (1990) is a GLP-compliant, closed bottle ready biodegradability study, with reference compounds, testing oxygen consumption, which follows OECD guideline 301D. Oxygen consumption in vessels containing tert-dodecanethiol was negligible, indicating that it was not readily degradable under the conditions of the test.

Results indicate that octane-1 -thiol is not readily biodegradable in water. No data are available for the biodegradation of octane-1 -thiol in soil or water and sediment.
