- Executive summary:
Acute oral intoxication with p-phenylenediamine manifests itself in man as local irritation, depletion of erythrocytes and skeletal muscle cells with acute renal failure, or as oedema of the head and neck with dyspnoea. Asthma attacks were also described at the turn of the century. p-Phenylenediamine is an allergen in man because of allergy to the para-group. Cases of photosensitization induced by p-phenylenediamine have also been recorded.
