Description of key information

Cesium tetrafluoroaluminate demonstrates a time-functional solubility in acid and native solution. After one day stirring a mostly stable solution is found with solubility around 13 g ±1 g/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
13 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The water solubility of cesium tetrafluoroaluminate was determined in an in-house non-GLP non-guideline study. Despite some limitations in design and/or reporting, the study is considered adequate for assessment. Cesium tetrafluoroaluminate demonstrates a spontaneous solubility of 38.2 g/l (without pH adjustment). From the solution cesium tetrafluoroaluminate dihydrate is further on crystallized or precipitated. After one day stirring a mostly stable solution is found with solubility around 13 ±1 g/l. The pH of the unadjusted solution varies between 5.6 and 6.1. lt is assumed that without pH adjustment cesium tetrafluoroaluminate will dissociate into the ions Cs+ and AlF4-, eventually partly into Al+, Cs+ and F-. With pH adjustment to pH 7 and pH 9 a gel-like residue is formed, which could not be filtrated. At pH 4 and two days of stirring a solubility of 13.1 g/l was determined.
