- Details on test solutions:
- PREPARATION OF TEST SUBSTANCE:
The product was added to the test water separately for each concentration by mixing with 1 g Tween 80 (0.1 g/liter of test water); subsequently aqua bidest. was added in small quantities and then this mixture was transferred into the test water using an ultra-turrax stirrer. Analogously 0.1 g Tween 80 /liter test water was added to a carrier control. Subsequently the fish were placed into the aquaria.

TEST MEDIUM / WATER PARAMETERS
Test water: Municipal water of the city of Frankenthal, not chlorinated and passed through an active carbon filter.
- Carbon content: about 90 mg/l
- Magnesium content: about 10 mg/l
- Acid capcaity: about 5.5 mmol/l
- pH: about 7.5
- Intervals of water quality measurement: The test water is regularly assayed for chemical contaminants by the municipal authorities of Frankenthal and the technical services of BASF Aktiengesellschaft as well as for presence of microbes by a contract laboratory.
OTHER TEST CONDITIONS
- Photoperiod: 16 hours light and 8 hours darkness
EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED (with observation intervals if applicable) :
Mortality and symptoms were determined at 1, 4, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours.
TEST CONCENTRATIONS
- Range finding study: Based on the results of range finding studies using tap water and the carrier Tween 80 (neither mortality nor any toxic signs up to the concentration 10 000 mg/l) the concentration 100 mg/l was selected according to the requirements of OECD guideline (highest concentration to be tested). For classification of hazards to water the concentration 10000 mg/l was tested in parallel.
No further information on test conditions was stated.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE MAIN TEST:
The aquarium contents were coloured and cloudy. Sedimentary test substance was visible about 24 hours after the beginning. - Reference substance (positive control):
- no
