In a key study, the relative self-ignition temperature of the test item Phosphonic acid (Phosphorous acid Flake) was determined based on the procedures indicated by the following internationally accepted method:

- EU Method A.16

Using a linear increase in temperature of about 0.5 °C/min up to 85 °C, the test item Phosphonic acid (Phosphorous acid Flake) showed no self-ignition reaction. At the end of the experiment the test item was liquid.
