Water stability has been determined for trioxane using the OECD guideline 111. The results shows that in contact with water 1,3,5 trioxane will hydrolyse slowly under environmental conditions (half-life > 1 yr). Photodegradation was estimated using version 1.92 of the Atmospheric Oxidation Program for Microsoft Windows (AOPWIN) that estimates the rate constant for the atmospheric, gas-phase reaction between photochemically produced hydroxyl radicals and organic chemicals. The half-life (37.5h) indicates that after evaporation or exposure to the atmosphere, the substance will be slowly degraded by photochemical processes.
