Description of key information

The lowest value of 211 mg/kg soil dw, which was determined for the collembole Folsomia candida, was put forward for the derivation of a terrestrial PNEC

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for soil dwelling arthropods:
211 mg/kg soil dw

Additional information

Kuperman et al (2008) reported a reliable NOEC-value for Ba (added as barium nitrate) for the arthropod F. candida. The derived no-effect values were based on ecological relevant endpoints (mortality and reproduction). Reproduction was the most sensitive endpoint, and the lowest NOEC-value was 211 mg Ba/kg soil dw.
