Reference
Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
September 2010
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
Study performed according to international guidelines but not under GLP and with some lack of details (no report number, criteria of validity not indicated).
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to other study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Deviations:
not specified
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO No., other: ASTM D 3828-97
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
equilibrium method closed cup
Key result
Flash point:
34 °C
Atm. press.:
ca. 1 atm

The measured values for the reference substances were:

Flash point of butanol: 36.0°C and 36.0°C

Flash point of N,N dimethylformamide: 58.1°C and 59.0°C

Flash point of Setaflash Certified Material 99878 -3: 74.3°C and 75.0°C

The measured values for the test item were : 34.4 °C and 34.1 °C.

According to the Standard Test Method ASTM D 3828-97 the precision of the method is for a flash point of 149°C as follow:

Repeatability: 2.0°C

Reproductibility: 7.5°C

Conclusions:
The flash point of substance GUM TURPENTINE OIL is 34°C.
Executive summary:

The flash point was determined with a closed cup tester by using an equilibrium method "Small Scale", commonly known as Setaflash, where the vapours are deemed to be in temperature equilibrium with the liquid. The study was based on the procedures indicated by the following internationally accepted methods:

- ASTM D 3828 -97: Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Small Scale Closed Tester.

- EU method Part A, A.9

Two measurements were performed.

The flash point of substnace GUM TURPENTINE OIL was determined as 34°C.

Description of key information

The flash point of GUM TURPENTINE OIL is 34°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
34 °C

Additional information

The flash point of GUM TURPENTINE OIL was determined in a study performed according to ASTM D 3828-97 method and EU method A.9.

The value was considered with a reliability of 2 (reliable with restrictions) because the result is scientifically acceptable but not obtained under GLP and some details were lacking in the report. The measured flash point is valid for key value.
