D-Glucopyranose, oligomers, decyl octyl glycosides (CAS: 68515-73-1) is "readily biodegradable" according to the OECD criteria.

Several studies investigated the biodegradation of D-Glucopyranose, oligomers, decyl octyl glycosides (CAS: 68515-73-1). Most of the studies were performed according to OECD guidelines. More precisely the following tests were performed: OECD 301 C “Modified MITI Test (I), OECD 301 E “Modified OECD Screening Test”, OECD 302 C “Inherent Biodegradability: Modified MITI Test (II)” and OECD 306 “Biodegradability in Seawater”. The non-OECD test is the "ECETOX Technical report No. 28: Evaluation of anaerobic biodegradation". The biodegradation in the freshwater and in the marine compartment were covered with these tests as well as the aerobic and anaerobic degradation of the test substance. Activated sludge or natural water was used as inoculum. D-Glucopyranose, oligomers, decyl octyl glycosides is “readily biodegradable” according to the OECD criteria since 70% of the test substance was degraded in 28 days based on the DOC (Garcia et al., 1997). This result is supported by another study in which 73% of the test substance was degraded after 14 d (Kao, 1991). Under anaerobic conditions (Stelter, 1996) the test substance is easily biodegradable (94.6% after 56 days). In the marine compartment, the test substance is was degraded to 55% after 28 days (Hudson, 2007). In conclusion, D-Glucopyranose, oligomers, decyl octyl glycosides is considered to be “readily biodegradable” according to the OECD criteria.
