Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Surface Tension [1,6-bis(trimethoxysilyl)hexane]: not relevant

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

On the basis of structure, neither the substance nor its hydrolysis products are expected to be surface active. Therefore, the requirement for testing is waived in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII. There is no presence of a typical surface active functional groups in the parent substance. In addition, the silanol hydrolysis product, 1,6-bis(trihydroxysilyl)hexane contained two polar groups at both ends.

In a disregarded study, the surface tension value of 53.1 mN/m at 20 ± 5°C was determined using an appropriate test method and in compliance with GLP. The surface tension determined for the substance is disregarded because: (1) the test system was overloaded, nominal sample concentration of 1.1 g/l used (measured water solubility was 0.526 g/l at 20°C) (2) there is formation of solid precipitate in the sample solution following completion of equibration period at 20°C. Although, the test laboratory tried to remove the precipitate by centrifugation before dilution, it is however possible that incomplete separation occured due to formation of less dense particles.
