Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 3h EC50 of bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium for activated sludge in an OECD 209 test is in excess of the highest test concentration i.e. > 640 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
640 mg/L

Additional information

One OECD 209 GLP study is available.

The toxicity of bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium to activated sludge was determined at a contact time of 3 hours, using various concentrations of the test substance. The inhibitory effect of bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium at a particular concentration is expressed as a percentage of the two controls.

Inhibition of the activated sludge respiration by bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium does not follow a classical dose-response curve. Inhibition of the activated sludge respiration by bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) did not increase at concentrations above 80 mg/L. Respiration inhibition percentages ranged from 34% to 38% over the measured concentration range of 80 to 640 mg/L .From the results EC values could not be calculated. The EC50of bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium for activated sludge after 3 hours contact time is in excess of the highest test concentration, i.e. > 640 mg/L. Bis(pentane-2,4-dionato) calcium is therefore considered not harmful to activated sludge.
