Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The viscosity of a blended liquid can be calculated by calculation of the Viscosity Blending Index (VBI) of each component of the blend using the Refutas equation: VBI = 14.534 × ln[ln(v + 0.8)] + 10.975, and then summing up the fractional contributions of each component to provide an overall VBI for the mixture. v is viscosity in centistokes (v=viscosity in centistokes which is equal to viscosity in mPas/density in g/cm3). The viscosity is then back calculated from the composite VBI using the inverse of the Refutas equation: v = e^(e^(VBI-10.975)/14.534))-0.8. For the mixture composition extremes, including water, this gives a viscosity range for the substance of 7 -28cStk. Because viscosities of the components are not all available at the same temperature, this can only be considered an approximation. A value of 20centistokes is taken as the key parameter (as a mid point value), which is equivalent to around 23mPas (at a density of 1.12).
