Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

-Skin irritation: not irritating, not corrosive in vitro
-Eye irritation: severely irritant in vitro

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Additional information

In the available relevant in vitro results obtained with the reaction mass containing mainly 2-chloropropene, it was demonstrated that the reaction mass was

-not irritant in the skin irritation test

-not corrosive in the skin corrosion test

-severely irritant or corrosive in the bovine corneal opacity and permeability test.

No information is available on the respiratory irritation for the reaction mass containing mainly the 2-chloropropene. However, as the 3-chloropropene which is one of the substance constituting the mixture is officially classified as a respiratory irritant (STOT SE 3/H335 according to CLP legislation), it was taken into account to propose the classification.

Effects on eye irritation: highly irritating

Effect level: empty Endpoint conclusion: Adverse effect observed

Justification for classification or non-classification

Skin and Eye irritation:

Based on the above in vitro results, we propose the following classification:

-R36 (irritating to eyes) according to DSD legislation

-Eye irritation Cat 2/H319 (Causes serious eye irritation) according to CLP legislation.

No classification is needed for the skin irritation endpoint.

Respiratory irritation:

Depending on the batch, the proportion of some of the impurities as 3 -chloropropene may vary. Some of the samples contains up to 0.5% in 3-chloropropene while other contains up to 5% of the same substance. As the percentage of 3-chloropropene reach maximum 5%, we should not classified the reaction mass containing mainly 2-chloropropene for this endpoint according to the mixtures's criterias of CLP-DSD legislation.
