Magnesium acrylate is not supposed to be directly applied to soil and an indirect exposure to soil via sewage sludge transfer is unlikely since the substance is readily biodegradable. For a substance being considered as „readily biodegradable“, it can be assumed that it will be biodegraded within the STP process and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected.

For the identified use external sealing of injection materials in the construction industry, magnesium acrylate will polymerise within 20 seconds to 15 minutes without significant rest monomer left over. For the cases horizontal or masonry injection an exposure to soil is unlikely, because the injection material is placed within in the building structure and has no contact to the soil. The same applies to other injection areas within the building structure (e.g. joint sealing, crack injection).

In summary, due to the area of application, the very short reaction time and its ready biodegradability an exposure to soil is unlikely.

Furthermore, the physicochemical data indicate that the substance is not adsorptive or bioaccumulative (log Kow = -1.87), a significant distribution into the soil compartment and a significant exposure of terrestrial organisms is not expected. Therefore, no tests on terrestrial organisms are provided.

This is in accordance with the specific rules for adaptation from testing in 9.4 of column 2 in annex IX of the regulaton (EC) 1907/2006.
