Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The boiling point at 101.3kPa of 2 ethylhexyl thioglycolate was calculated to be 227.4 +/- 4.5°C (decomposes around 150°C at normal pressure).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
500.6 K

Additional information

Measurig the boiling point of the test material under normal pressure is not possible because the test material turns to dark brownish color and decomposes at temperature above 150°C ( cf study : Boiling point of 2-EHTG/Author: Mourgues Loic / Defitraces laboratory /2003).

Therefore measurements of the boiling point temperature at various pressures far below normal pressure are carried out by Manuela Scheer, Karin Sablowski and Rainer Fölsing in the central laboratory of Bruno Bock Chemische Fabrik. No coloration of the test material in the distillation vessel was observed for the applied temperature up to 135°C.Therefore the calculated values from indirect measurements (Scheer, Sablowski, Folsing experimental study) seem more reliable.
