Short-term aquatic toxicity data are available for each of the three freshwater trophic levels (fish, daphnia and algae). There were no toxic effects at the limit of solubility. In order to avoid unnecessary chronic testing the highest measured soluble concentration (or solubility limit) was used to derive aquatic PNECs.

The test substance was assessed for microbial inhibition in support of the regulation DIN 38412 L8. Nine concentrations were tested and none demonstrated toxic effects. The results showed that the 16 h EC50 of the test substance was >16 mg/L, based on growth inhibition. The NOEC is considered to be 16 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity testing is not available for freshwater fish or invertebrates. In accordance with Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, long-term toxicity testing is not considered to be necessary as the Chemical Safety Assessment (CSA) demonstrates safe use of dodecanal.
