Description of key information

No short-term toxicity data is available for the registered substance. Nevertheless, n-propylmercaptan (n-PM) has been shown to be at least as or more toxic than isopropylmercaptan. Therefore, a read-across based on n-PM toxicity for fish is considered. The 96-hour LC50 value for fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) exposed to n-PM was 1.3 mg/L.

Additional information

The toxicity of propane-2 -thiol to fish has been read across within the category from 2 -methylpropane-2 -thiol. Fathead minnows (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were exposed for 96 hours in a closed bottle, static renewal system to five mean measured concentrations ranging from 3.8 to 60 mg a.i./L. The 96-hour LC50 value was 34 mg a.i./L, with a confidence interval of 27 to 55 mg a.i./L. The no-mortality concentration and the NOEC were both 16 mg a.i./L.
