Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The surface tension at 20 deg C is 72.7 mN/m.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
72.7
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
1

Additional information

The surface tension of the test substance was determined according o OECD guideline 115 (ring method).

An aqueous solution at ambient temperature of the test substance with a concentration of 1.0 g/L was prepared. Six measurements at a temperature of 20 deg C every 5 mins was done.

The surface tension was determined to WE= 72.28 mN/m. Wlit= 72.58 mN/m (20° C) The calibration factor F was calculated with respect to the literature value for water: F = Wlit/ WE= 1.0041 The mean value, multiplied by the calibration factor yields 72.7 mN/m ( Dr. J. Franke, 2002).
