Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (sensitising)
Additional information:

In a Guinea Pig Maximization Test (OECD 406) N, N-Dimethylformamide dimethyl-acetal has shown a sensitizing effect.

After the challenge no skin reactions occurred in the control groups (polyethylene glycol) but 6 of 10 animals in the test group showed a skin sensitising effect. Skin reactions in some animals of the test group at the vehicle treated application site indicate a possible influence of the induction treatment by the test substance on the skin irritation threshold. [BASF, 2003]

Migrated from Short description of key information:
1,1-Dimethoxytrimethylamine showed a sensitizing effect on the skin of the guinea pig in the Maximization Test.

Justification for classification or non-classification

1,1-Dimethoxytrimethylamine is considered to be skin sensitising (EU: R43; GHS: cat.1 H317) according to the criteria of EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
