Additional information

The biodegradability of 1,2,3,4 -tetrahydroisoquinoline was determined in a GLP-compliant study according to OECD guideline 301A (DOC Die-Away test). In this study, flasks containing test substance in a concentration of about 20 mg/L Dissolved Organic Carbon and inoculum from a municipal treatment plant in a mineral medium, and two blank controls (only mineral medium and inoculum) were incubated for 28 days. Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) measurements were performed twice per week and DOC-values compared with the values at the start of exposure. The decrease of DOC concentration is expressed as biodegradation degree. After 28 -days exposure, less than 10% biodegradation of the test substance was observed. Results with the reference substance aniline showed that the test system was sufficiently sensitive. Based on these findings 1,2,3,4 -tetrahydroisoquinoline is characterised as not readily biodegradable.
