Additional information

Short-term studies with 2-amino-1,3-propanediol (APD) are available for all three trophic levels. All tests demonstrate low aquatic toxicity, with LC/EC50 values of 6600 mg/L, 660 mg/L and 480 mg/L for fish, daphnia and alga, respectively.

No long-term studies with fish or daphnia are available for APD. The algal test revealed a NOEC of 31.3 mg/L. For the assessment of long-term toxicity, a study conducted with another category member AEPD (CAS 115 -70 -8) was used as read-across data. In this study, a 21-day NOEC of 3.99 mg/L was obtained for Daphnia magna. Long-term testing on fish is not proposed, since based on the short-term data and the relatively high NOEC values from the above mentioned studies, no long-term effects are to be expected. Additionally, the substance is readily biodegradable and has low bioaccumulation potential. Based on this information and for reasons of animal welfare, further testing on fish is not justified.
