Description of key information

No toxic effects to aquatic invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility (WS: < 0.05 mg/L; OECD 202).

In accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read across to the structurally similar analogue substance 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic acid mixed tetraesters with pentaerythritol and valeric acid (CAS 131459-39-7) was conducted to fulfil the data requirements according to Annex VII-IX of 2,2 -bis[[(1 -oxoisononyl)oxy]methyl]-1,3 -propanediyl diisononanoate (93803 -89 -5) in regard to toxicity aquatic invertebrates.This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID section 6.1) and within the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13. The substance consists of the same alcohol component(pentaerythritol) and similar fatty acid chain lengths as the target substance (C9iso for the target substance compared to C5-6 for the source substances, respectively).

The study with the read across substance 3,5,5 -trimethylhexanoic acid mixed tetraesters with pentaerythritol and valeric acidwas conducted under static conditions according to OECD 202 using Daphnia magna as test organism. Nominal concentration of 1000 mg/L (prepared as WAF) was tested. Analytical monitoring showed that the measured test concentration was less than the limit of quantification. After 48 h no effects were observed. No mortality and no signs of intoxication were observed. Therefore, this study resulted in a 48 h EL50 of > 1000 mg/L (nominal). The NOELR was derived to be ≥ 1000 mg/L (nominal).

Based on the result from a structurally related read-across substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5), which is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile and structure, it can be concluded that of 2,2-bis[[(1-oxoisononyl)oxy]methyl]-1,3-propanediyl diisononanoatewill not exhibit acute toxic effects to invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility.
