No effects observed up to the limit of water solubility for Daphnia magna (OECD 202 part 2, read across)

Since no study assessing the long-term toxicity of Fatty acids, C8 -10, octyl esters (CAS 91031-98-0) to aquatic invertebrates is available, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally similar substance isopropyl myristate (CAS 110-27-0) was conducted. Further justification of the read-across approach is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and the analogue justification document in section 13.

The key study with isopropyl myristate (CAS 110-27-0) was performed according to the OECD guideline 202 part 2 (similar to OECD 211) and GLP (Wierich, 1995). The test organism Daphnia magna was exposed to the test substance in a semi-static system for 21 days, at loading rates of 0.1 and 100 mg/L. The substance did not have any effect on the on survival and reproduction of the test organisms at the tested loading rates. Thus the 21d-EL50 is determined to be > 100 mg/L and the 21d-NOEL is determined to be ≥ 100 mg/L.

Based on the above mentioned results, and due to the structural and profile similarities of the target and the source substance, it can be concluded that no toxicological long-term effects on aquatic invertebrates are expected up to the limit of water solubility for Fatty acids, C8 -10, octyl esters (CAS 91031-98-0).
