Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Skin Contact:

Wash with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and continue flushing with water. Get medical attention if irritation develops or persists.

Eye Contact:

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 20 minutes. Get immediate medical attention. Hold eyelids apart periodically while flushing.

Inhalation:

Remove from exposure area to fresh air immediately. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Get medical attention immediately.

Ingestion:

If swallowed, contact physician or poison control center immediately.   Do NOT induce vomiting. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Fire-fighting measures

1. Extinguishing media

Appropriate Extinguishing Media:

Foam, carbon dioxide, dry chemical, water fog

2. Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Hazardous Products of Combustion:

Toxic vapors may be released upon thermal decomposition (cyanides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide).

3. Advice for firefighters

Basic Fire Fighting Guidance:

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing (i.e., Bunker gear).  Skin and eye contact should be avoided.  Normal fire fighting procedures may be used

Accidental release measures

1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Evacuation Procedures:

Isolate the hazard area and deny entry to unnecessary and unprotected personnel.

Special Instructions:

Remove all contaminated clothing to prevent further absorption.  Decontaminate affected personnel using first aid procedures. Leather shoes that have been saturated must be discarded.

2. Environmental precautions

Prevent releases to soils, drains, sewers and waterways.

3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Ventilate the area of spill or leak. Wear protective equipment during clean-up. For small spills, use suitable absorbent material and collect for later disposal. For large spills, the area may require diking to contain the spill. Material can then be collected (eg., suction) for later disposal.

After collection of material, flush area with water. Dispose of the material in accordance with standard practice for disposal of potentially hazardous materials as required by applicable federal, state or local laws.

Handling and storage

1. Precautions for safe handling

Practices to Minimize Risk:

Wear appropriate protective equipment when performing maintenance on contaminated equipment.  Wash hands thoroughly before eating or smoking after handling this material.  Do not eat, drink or smoke in work areas.  Prevent contact with incompatible materials.  Avoid spills and keep away from drains.  Handle in a manner to prevent generation of aerosols, or vapors.

2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Storage Precautions & Recommendations:

Maintain dry, ventilated conditions for storage. Protect containers against physical damage. Keep away from strong acids, strong bases and oxidizing agents.

Dangerous Incompatibility Reactions: Avoid strong acids, strong bases, and oxidizing agents.

Incompatibilities with Materials of Construction:  None known

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Control parameters: No Occupational Exposure Limits have been established for this product:

2. Exposure controls

Engineering Controls:

All operations should be conducted in well-ventilated conditions.  Local exhaust ventilation should be provided.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety glasses or chemical goggles (EN166). Neoprene, nitrile, or PVC-coated gloves (EN374). Work uniforms or impervious clothing and boots. If respiratory protection is needed or desired, use an appropriate air purifying respirator. Air-purifying respirators must not be used in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.

Environmental Exposure Controls:

The level of protection and types of controls necessary will vary depending upon potential exposure conditions.  Select controls based on a risk assessment of local circumstances.  If user operations generate dust, fumes, gas, vapor or mist, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other

engineering controls to keep worker exposure to airborne contaminants below any recommended or statutory limits.

Stability and reactivity

1. Reactivity

Not classified as dangerously reactive.

2. Chemical stability

Stable

3. Possibility of hazardous reactions

Polymerization is not expected to occur

4. Conditions to avoid

Uncontrolled exposure to high temperatures.

5. Incompatible materials

Avoid strong acids, strong bases, and oxidizing agents.

6. Hazardous decomposition products

Toxic vapors may be released upon thermal decomposition (cyanides, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide)

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Dispose of this material responsibly, and in accordance with standard practice for disposal of potentially hazardous materials as required by applicable international, national, regional, state or local laws, and environmental protection duty of care principles.  Do NOT dump into any sewers, on the ground, or into    any body of water.  For disposal within the EC, the appropriate classification code according to the European Community List of Wastes should be used.

Note that disposal regulations may also apply to empty containers and equipment rinsates
