Description of key information

FAT 65004 is a yellowish powder at 20 °C.

Additional information

FAT 65004 is a yellowish powder at 20 °C.

Melting point of the test substance was determined to be 187 °C according to OECD Guideline 102

The boiling point of the test substance was investigated in a study conducted according to the OECD Guideline 103. However, no boiling point was observed until 350 °C.

Density of the test substance was investigated in a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 109, which was determined to be 1.3031 g/cm³.

The particle size distribution for the test substance was as follows: L10: 4.492 μm; L50: 12.152 μm; L90: 42.717 μm

The vapor pressure of has been calculated to be less than 1.4 x 10-10Pa at 25 °C

A test was conducted to evaluate the n-octanol water partition coefficient of the test substance according to the OECD Guideline 107 and 117 as well as EU Method A.8. Flask method was used for this purpose. Based on the findings of the study, the n-octanol/water partition coefficent of the test item at 20 °C, from the individual solubility in water and n-octanol, was determined to be (log Pow) 3.91.

The water solubility of the test substance at a temperature of 20 °C was determined to be 0.29 mg/L.

A study was conducted to evaluate the surface tension of the test substance according to OECD Guideline 115. The determination of the surface tension was accomplished by means of a Tensiometer, using the Wilhelmy plate method. Based on the findings of the study, the surface tension of the test substance was determined to be 57.935 mN/m at room temperature ca 20 °C. The variation of specification factor was 0.010714 mN/m.

As the substance is a solid with a high melting point  the study for determination of a flash point has been waived.

The auto-ignition temperature of FAT65004 was determined to be >550 °C.

No ignition was observed throughout the course of the test. Hence, the test item FAT 65004/F TE should be considered as not highly flammable.

The analysis of the chemical structure reveals no alerts for explosive properties. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is above the trigger value of -200, but the determination of the exothermic decomposition energy demonstrated an energy release below the critical value of 500 J/g. Therefore the substance is considered to be non-explosive according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing are required.

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, study to determine oxidizing properties does not need to be conducted as this substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of its chemical structure.
