Description of key information

The substance was determined to be 'not highly flammable' by ignition (by flame) in a study performed in accordance with UN MTC Test N.1 and EC.A10 and in compliance with GLP.
The UN classification procedure for pyrophoric solids does not need to be applied because experience in handling shows that the substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures and because of the absence of structural alerts. For the same reasons, the EC A.13 test does not need to be performed. The substance has no pyrophoric properties. It was also concluded that the UN classification procedure for substances which may react with water to emit flammable gases does not need to be applied because: 1. experience in handling shows that the substance does not react with water;
2. the substance is known to be soluble in water; 3. the substance lacks structural alerts. The EC A.12 test does not need to be performed for the same reasons. The substance is not highly flammable in contact with water.
Statements rather than full studies were considered sufficient to cover these endpoints. The statements were written by an expert in accordance with UN TDG-MTC Appendix 6 in compliance with the principles of GLP.

Additional information

For substances showing no (propagation of) combustion, the EC A.10 test is essentially the same as the UN MTC N.1 test as wetted zone (N.1 test) is of no relevance then.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is not flammable by ignition.

The substance does not contain any chemical groups indicating flammability in contact with water or indicating pyrophoric properties. Experience during handling confirmed this. The substance is not pyrophoric or flammable in contact with water.

In conclusion, the substance does not have to be classified for flammability under the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 including its amendments.
